A note from our
Section President:
Ms. Shaun Wethington

Ms. Shaun Wethington, an African American woman who wants to promote and recognize leadership among women of color didn't waste any time making her goal a reality. A staunch advocate for advancing the opportunities and improving the quality of life for women of African descent, Shaun Wethington started the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Lake, Sumter and Marion Counties Section in June 2024 under the Leadership of Florida State Coalition, President Emeritus Tempress "Tee" Solomon.  It was officially approved by the National Board of NCNW, Inc, in Wahington, D.C.

Shaun was a chartered member of the Central Florida Section in Orlando since its inception in 2017, Shaun "saw that there is a great need in carrying out the mission of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, a renowned educator, activist and government consultant who supported ideals for uplifting women and encouraging them to break the glass ceilings."

The newly chartered section is a non-profit 501-c3 organization, which has 40 members including women and men (supporters). Our goals include reaching out to women who want to improve their quality of life, celebrate and strengthen the African American family, reduce health disparities, champion civil and human rights, provide voter education and registration, advocate for mental health awareness and work with the Coalition for the Homeless.

Shaun has some valuable and active executive board members who represent all three counties on the team. With the dedication of each member the Lake Sumter and Marion Counties Section will be an impactful organization to the community.

The executive board members listed are each chartered members of the Lake, Sumter and Marion Counties Section and have a passion to change and devote their time to making a positive difference in the community.
